In October 2011 we launched a competition inviting members of the public to take photographs of the Shoreditch and Hoxton areas. The two conditions were that they were in black and white and taken on a mobile phone. The purpose was to assemble images to be displayed on a new outdoor gallery called the Vertical Gallery, which we believe will be London's first truly public gallery since it is designed to exhibit photographs taken BY the public, OF the public and FOR the public. This new gallery will be located at the busy junction of Old Street and Great Eastern Street.
The 15 winning images have now been selected by a panel of six judges and can be viewed at http://www.lottolab.org/articles/verticalgallery.asp. We have begun the process of mounting the photographs for display and will announce the public opening of this very public gallery shortly.
